Preview Skellig Rangers v Waterville
South Kerry League Round 1

This weekend, the South Kerry League will get underway as Skellig Rangers will travel to Waterville. There were rumours earlier on that this competition would be delayed and played in the summer, but the improvement in conditions of pitches have allowed the league to get the go ahead. Both sides will more than likely use this game as a measure of where they stand at this early stage of the season with a good performance hoped by both managers. Managers of either side will look to blood younger players and examine their full squad by giving most players a run out but the points are vital too to get a run in this competition.

For the home side, the O’ Dwyers carry the usual threat with Barry and Stephen in the forwards, a stern test it will be for the Skellig defence. Waterville boast two Kerry Juniors in Niall Fitzgerald and Kevin O’ Dwyer and will look to these players to help them to a victory over the Skellig Rangers men.
For the Portmagee side, Chris O’ Driscoll, his brother Gary, Sean Courtney and Daniel O’ Sullivan will be the quartet missing due to injury, emigration or work commitments. Patie Mahoney, manager again for another year, however, has new faces in the squad this year with a couple of players returning from London to rejoin the squad.

It will be a closely fought battle as are always these matches. This is both sides first competitive match since the Championship last winter so they will go into the game having had good pre-season training under their belts. Sunday’s game will give the managers the opportunity to get a closer view on their respective teams.

Throw-in 12pm in Waterville, Sunday 3rd March 2013. Please Support!
