Skellig Rangers senior team collected their first points in the County League after a three point win over St. Pat's Blennerville on Sunday. The first half was a close, tight encounter with St. Pat's getting on the scoreboard first through Kieran Hurley. Rangers reply was to come from Steven O' Sullivan the Glen, Ciaran Keating from a free from close range and Bernard Casey who curled one over from a narrow angle. Rangers were dominating the ball in the opening half but St. Pat's still managed to stay in touch with a couple of scores to reduce the deficit. Sean Courtney and full forward Brian Hickey added further points to ensure Rangers went in ahead with the half time score 0-5 to 0-3. Rangers showed good movement and hard work in this half but still had a few wides which ensured St. Pat's were still in touch going into the second half.

Rangers, playing into the lower goal in the second half were first on the scoreboard again with Brian Hickey kicking over again. The pace levels never seemed to drop and there was intense tight tackling from both sides with Brian Murphy and Stephen O' Sullivan excelling in defense for Rangers. Hurley kicked over again for the away side to keep them in touch but St/ Pat's never went away and lively wing forward Andy Byrne goaled for them to reduce it to just the minimum one point. Howevere, Rangers' response was a goal from corner forward Sean Courtney when he slotted past the keeper after a long ball was played in. Alan Devane added a further goal when he burst through and rocketed a shot to the roof of the net past the diving goalkeeper. Byrne added another score for the Tralee side but Ciaran Keating popped over another point to bring Rangers tally to 2-9. In the last few minutes St. Pat's, with the numerical advantage after Stephen O' Sullivan(Ardcost) was sent off for a second yellow, attacked and tried to level matters as they pushed for a goal but were repelled by good tenacious defending and tremendous pressure by Skellig's players. Final score 2-9 to 1-9.
