Asdee Ballylongford 1-10 Valentia Skellig Rangers: 0-09

Played in Na Gaeil pitch on Friday night the minors were unlucky not to progress to the co final of the Division 6 Co League. Goals win games, that’s true for Asdee Ballylongford. There wouldn’t be a goal keeper in the country that could of pulled off a save when Asdee Ballylongford buried the bal in the back of Padraig O’Sullivan’s goal. This happened in the opening minutes of the game from here in Valentia Skellig were on the chase. 1-01 down and Paul Curtain opened the scoring with a point from play, Diarmuid Keating (2) and Andy Quigley (1) added to the score board to leave the half time score 1-04 to 0-04.

Brian Kennedy playing at full back was dominant while Anthony O’Driscoll playing on the wind was making some great runs. The Asdee Ballylongford defence proved too difficult to get past. The second half saw Darragh Murphy being replaced by Patrick O’Connell. Only a goal separated the sides and Valentia Skellig Rangers brought the game to a point deficit on two occasions in the second half, with points from Diarmuid Keating (2) and Andy Quigley (3) and were unlucky when one of their points was signaled as a wide in the opening minutes of the game. In the last six minutes of the half Asdee Ballylongford pulled away with three unanswered points. The never give up spirit of the Skellig Valentia team was inspiring and they continued to attack until the final whistle.
They have lead a good campaign in the Co League finishing only second in their group due to scores difference. The minors are trained by Ger O’Shea & Brian O’Sullivan of Skellig Rangers and Brendan O’Sullivan of Valentia.
