Minor Championship

St. Finians and St. Micheals Foilmore contested the South Kerry Minor Championship Semi-Final last Saturday in Foilmore. St. Finians were victorius on a scoreline of 1-10 to 1-09 and now look forward to meeting St. Marys/Renard in the Final. Well done to all involved. Date TBC.

Junior Championship

Supporters had a busy weekend as they travelled to Valentia on Sunday to watch the Semi-Final of the South Kerry Junior Championship. A repeat of the County League Junior Final played in August, Skellig Rangers faced nearby rivals St. Micheals/Foilmore. However, on this occasion Skellig Rangers were victorious after an elusive 80 minutes of football. The saints dominated the first half playing with a strong wind to their advantage. Rangers found it difficult to get possession midfield and our defence were under pressure as Damien Kelly proved to be a threat. First half scores came from the boots of Sean Courtney, Declan Keating and Bernard Casey. Hopes were low for the Rangers as both teams entered the dressing rooms at half time on a score of 0-09 to 0-03. After the throw in, St. Micheals/Foilmore added to their lead with another point. As the wind now favoured the Rangers, points began to come and the lead began to narrow. Some superb kicking by Bernard Casey and others to contribute to the scoreboard were Sean Courtney, Alan Devane, Mikey Keating, Michael O’Sullivan and Declan Keating. The game finished level and the game entered extra time. Pressure was mounting as legs were tiring. A constant exchange of points saw the game go down to the wire. As thoughts of a replay were looming, a point from the experienced Wayne O’Sullivan sealed the victory for Skellig Rangers. It was an outstanding display from the team. The heart, determination and resilience shown by this Junior side sent every supporter home with delight. Well done to the management of Mark Conway, Patrick O’Sullivan, Jimmy O’Sullivan and the absent Kevin Martin. The team lined out as follows; Michael Brennan, Brendan Keating, Declan O’Sullivan, Wayne O’Sullivan, Brian Murphy, Bernard Casey, Michael O’Sullivan, Alan Devane, Damien Murphy, Gerard Walsh, Sean Courtney, Mike Keating , Eoin Connor, Declan Keating, Michael O’Sullivan. Subs were Brendan O’Keefe, Martin O’Sullivan, Eoin O’Riordan, Gerard O’Sullivan and Brendan Devane. We now look forward to meeting St. Marys in the final. Date TBC.
