Skellig/Valentia draw opening game in County League.
Skellig/Valentia played out an entertaining draw with Dromid/Waterville at O’ Connor Park in Valentia on Wednesday with a full time score of 2-10 to 1-13 being a fair reflection on the game. Dromid/Waterville got off to a great start and were first on the scoreboard when Sam O’ Dwyer pointed. Sam Dwyer was proving a real scoring threat with his pace and movement in the forwards causing problems and kicked 6 points for the away side in the opening half. Skellig/Valentia, playing into a stern breeze found scores hard to come by, but eventually got on the scoresheet when Andy Quigley pointed after 6 minutes.

Diarmaid Keating and Fionan Clifford exchanged points and Dilan O’ Donoghoue also tapped over two points. Aided by the wind, Dromid Waterville were first to find the back of the net when Fionan Clifford breezed through the home defence and found the lively Dilan O’ Donoghoue who slotted home. Half time score Skellig/Valentia 0-5 Dromid Waterville 1-7.

The second half began with a score for Dromid when Sam O’ Dwyer kicked over again. Paul Curtin and Fionan Clifford traded points yet again and Skellig/Valentia now aided with the breeze scored 3 points from Andy Quigley and a few minutes later he also goaled to level proceedings. O’ Dwyer pointed again to set up a tense finale. The final ten minutes saw Diarmaid Keating point and score a crucial goal to keep the deficit at a minimum. However, Fionan Clifford, instrumental for Dromid/ Waterville all game, had the final say when he popped over a free from close range.
