County Junior Football League Saint Marys 1-04 Skellig Rangers 1-05. The Juniors started there campain with a hard earned victory on Friday last. The ageless Maurice Fitzgearld was in the starting line up and he rolled back the years with a tremendous opening point. Rangers went in front when a great ball by Eoin O Connor found Gerard O'Sullivan who found the net. Gerard O'Sullivan was on the scoresheet again a couple of minutes later but points from Fergal O'Connell and Maurice Fitzgearld kept the Marys in it. Rangers finished the half stronger with points from Eoin O'Connor and a fisted effort from Gerard Walsh to leave the half-time score at 1-03 to 0-03 in favour of Rangers. The second half was a scrappy affair and it wasnt until midway through the half before a Fergal O'Connell goal opened the scoring. After this score the Marys began to dominate and only a last ditch off the line clearence from the impressive John O Leary prevented another goal from going in. Rangers quickly found thier feet after this and a great ball by Gerard Walsh found Brian O'Driscoll and he put Rangers back in front. It was a nervy finish for rangers until substitute Joe Moore slotted the insurance point. Maurice Fitzgearld pointed a free but shortly afterwords the final whistle blew and
Rangers had secured victory by the tightest of margins. Rangers defence was one of the main reasons they emerged victorious. Every one of the Rangers backs played well with John O'Leary, Paul Lynch and Mike Walsh standing out. At midfield Brendan O Keffee and Gerard O'Sullivan worked tirelessly throughout while up front Brian O'Driscoll, Eoin O'Connor and Gerard Walsh were the main threats.
