Intermediate Championship this weekend!

The road to Croke Park begins this weekend when the first round of the Castleisland Mart sponsored Club Intermediate Football Championship gets underway in Páirc Chill Imeallach for Skellig Rangers when they take on Dromid Pearses in a local derby this Saturday at 6pm. Both sides have tasted success in club championships in recent years with the home side winning the All-Ireland Junior Championship in 2009 while Dromid Pearses have the 2012 County and Junior Club Championship to add to their history books.

Skellig Rangers have started their County League campaign impressively notching up six points on the table while Dromid Pearses, in Division 3, have won one, drawn one and lost another of their County League matches. However, the cliché ‘the form book goes out the window’ comes to mind when you pair these sides together in a Championship match. Skellig Rangers are sweating on the fitness of wing back Gerard O’ Sullivan and he faces a race against time to be fit for the weekend’s clash while Dromid Pearses have a full strength panel with Niall O’ Shea and Brian O’ Leary both still abroad having emigrated earlier on in the year.

Skellig Rangers will look to make home advantage count against a Dromid Pearses team whose attack, no doubt, will be spearheaded by Kerry Footballer Declan O’ Sullivan. Extra time is a possibility and don’t rule it out because there won’t be a kick off a ball between the two teams. Throw in 6pm @ Páirc Chill Imeallach, Saturday 20th April.
