County League Round 1: Skellig Rangers 1-07, Spa 1-10. Straight from the throw in Rangers were on the attack. An impressive start by the home side saw Gary O'Driscoll win the ball at midfield, who fed it to Colin O'Sullivan playing a long ball into Brian Hickey, he sold the dumie before sending it over the bar. Spa equalised through a Michael O Donoghue point but Rangers were in front when Brian Hickey palmed a high ball down to Ciaran Keating, which saw Gary O Driscoll recieve and finish it in the net. It was O'Driscoll again who gave Rangers a 4 point lead but Niall O'Mahoney responded for Spa. Both sides had 2 further points apiece with Rangers scores coming from Ciaran Keating (F) and Alan Devane to leave the half-time score at 1-04 to 0-04 in favour of Skelig Rangers. Rangers were playing well but Spa's strong attacking play was causing them problems. They missed out on two very good goal chances, one of which was well saved by Martin O Sullivan the other going narrowly wide. Spa started the second half in whirlwind fashion and reeled off 5 unanswered points. Skellig Rangers got back on level terms with points from Gary O Driscoll and an impressive long distance kick by Ciaran Keating. Pressure began to build in the Rangers defence and as a result, Spa went in front with a goal from Cian Tobin. They added a further point and despite Rangers best efforts they could only manage one final point through substitute Brendan O'Sullivan. Spa emerged victorious. Rangers did well in the first half but Spa upped thier game in the second half and deserved thier win. Best for rangers on the day were Steven O Sullivan(Ardcost), Shamus O Sullivan, Gary O'Driscoll and Ciaran Keating. Rangers next County League outing will be away to Milltown/Castlemaine on weekend of 8th/9th of April.
