An understrength Skellig Rangers took on Finuge on Sunday, who were also short a few numbers and managed to scrape a draw after a hard fought clash in the North Kerry sides home patch. The full time result read 1-6 to 0-9. The men missing for Skellig on the day were Ciaran Keating, Martin, Stephen and Micheál O’ Sullivan, Bernard Casey and Bernard Walsh while the standout absentees for Finuge were Kerry County Stars Paul Galvin and John Griffin and Maurice Corridon.

Slippery conditions were the order of the day again and Finuge found it hard to kick into a stern breeze in the opening half with Enda Galvin and Michael Stackpoole both guilty of wides. Skellig stormed into an early 1 -1 to 0-0 lead when Brian Hickey slotted over a free and Alan Devane burst through and buried the ball low into the net. Enda Galvin responded for Finuge and a lot of the game was played around the middle with both defences coming out on top. The hardworking Brian O’ Sullivan was helping out his defence and his workrate allowed the forwards to add further scores, John Tyler and Stephen O’ Sullivan with a longe range score from midfield.

The second half, Finuge came back into it and scored 2 points on the trot from Jack Corridan and Darren O’ Sullivan with Pat Corridan influencing affairs around the middle. Skellig’s scorers came from Alan Devane and Stephen O’ Sullivan who burst through to get his 2nd of the day. Enda Galvin and Fergus Fitzmaurice both scored again to reduce the deficit and Jack Corridan tipped over to level proceedings and the game ended on a drawn affair, 1-6 to 0-9.It was a decent game overall, with Alan Devane revelling in his new role at Centre Forward, Shamus O’ Sullivan who was tight all afternoon and Brian Hickey was the main scorer up front. It was good to see a good travelling support and well done to team on management on a decent result that keeps them second, within touching distance of top spot, occupied by Finuge.
