Casey rescues Rangers in a nail biting Finish

Rangers nearly left this one after them. The homeside began to crumble when Aidan Dash O’Sullivan limped off the field injured five minutes before the break. Rangers had clocked up a five point lead inside the opening quarter with points from a spread of forwards. Martin O’Sullivan (1), Brian Hickey (1), Alan Devane (1), Micheal O’Sullivan (1) and Brian O’Sullivan (1). Annascaul got moving and clawed back the deficit with points from midfielder Emmet Kennedy and James Crean before Aidan went off. Annascaul took charge at midfield and went on the attack. Two more points, Kennedy & veteran Gennie Farrell and now only two points separated the sides at the break.

It took only six minutes in the opening of the second half to level sides and life line goal from full forward Eamonn Lennihan giving the visitors a three point lead left Rangers scratching their heads. They were suddenly on the chase. Bernard Casey who had entered the game in the opening half for an injured Aidan O’Sullivan took a while to settle in to the game but once he did, he made no mistake in taking his scores. With in ten minutes he had leveled the game and minutes later gave Rangers a one point lead, but there was still ten minutes on the clock allowing for injury time and Rangers had to pull hard to keep Annascaul from leveling the game. The visitors had one last kick at the post when they were awarded a free on the sixty first minute. Midfielder Emmet Kennedy stepped up to the mark. Placed the ball on the ground and stood tall forty five yards out. Up against a stiff breeze this was his only chance to level the game and at least share the spoils. But it was not to be, he sent the ball just inches shy of the uprights and time was up. The Rangers were lucky to escape here with a win. But two points is two points as they soldier on at the top of the league table.
